Degree from Institute of Engineers no more valid for govt jobs

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh government has stopped recognizing degrees awarded by Institute of Engineers (India) and other professional technical institutions at par with BE, BTech-depriving its degree-holders from recruitment in government jobs and denying promotions to all those, who have joined various departments in previous years.
Over 400 such degree-holders, seeking government employment and promotions after working in various departments, are now running from pillar to post, with departments passing the buck on ministry of human resources development (MHRD) and All Indian Council for Technical Education (AICTE) with regard to recognition of these degrees at par with BE and BTech.
RTI activist Prakash Sharma, who is following up the issue with MHRD, AICTE and other government departments, told TOI that state technical education department degrees were treated at par with BE and BTech till May 2013. A large number of people, holding these degrees, are working in various departments including public works, irrigation and rural engineering service.
Pointing out that there are about 15 professional technical institutions, serving as Institution of Engineers (India), including The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (India), The Institution of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineers (India), Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering, Institution of Civil Engineers (India) and Aeronautical Society of India, Sharma said these institutions are recognized by MHRD. He said holders of degrees from these institutions are eligible for jobs in railways, oil and natural gas commission, Indian Army and other government and public sector bodies. "But Chhattisgarh government is now dilly-dallying in taking a decision, denying opportunities to such people," he added.
Contrary to the current stand, state's director technical education in 2010 and later in 2013 had recognized AMICE (I) and subsequently engineers with this degree were recruited in various government departments while municipal corporations also granted licence to them to carryout civil works.
When contacted, state's technical education deputy director VK Salate told TOI that as per AICTE amendment of May 2010, AMICE degree is not approved.
