HC: Clear illegal structures within 300m of IAF depot

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday made it clear that it would consider the proposal of reducing restricted zone around the Indian Air Force (IAF) ammunition depot in Gurgaon from 900 metres only if the state government undertook to remove all encroachments from within the 300m area. The high court passed these directions after the defence ministry said that it wanted the proposed 300m area around ammunition depot completely encroachment-free before formally notifying the restricted zone.
The court directed the Haryana government to file a detailed reply on this by November 17. On September 7, the Union government had submitted before the HC that the restricted zone around ammunition depot of IAF in Gurgaon had been decided to be decreased to 300m. It was submitted by the Centre during the resumed hearing of a petition filed against the encroachment around prohibited zones of Air Force stations in Gurgaon and Faridabad.
The Centre, however, had made it clear that the area of restricted zone around Air Force Station, Faridabad would remain 100m.
